NEC Group is the UK’s leading live events business, operating in exhibitions, conferences, music, sports, family entertainment and hospitality. The business is based in and around Birmingham and the West Midlands, although their venues are world-renowned.

Most famous of their brands is the National Exhibition Centre. Having opened in 1976, it is the largest exhibition venue in the UK, with 20 interconnecting halls and 34 conference suites welcoming around 2.4 million visitors per year to shows such as Crufts, The Clothes Show and The Classic Motor Show. Other brands in the group include the The ICC, The Vox, The Genting Arena, Arena Birmingham, The Ticket Factory and Amadeus.

The relationship

Being an industry-leading company with a purpose of attracting millions of people to its centres, the marketing team for the NEC Group has significant importance. It is therefore crucial that the best people are hired to their team and particularly in the digital sector. 

Having established a great relationship with the Commercial Director, the Heathcote Recruitment Group team (formerly ESA Group) were introduced to the Head of Digital and Digital Marketing Manager, who required a search for a Marketing Executive, two Digital Executives and a Web Developer to bolster their already substantial team.

The challenge

Whilst any search is never straightforward, working with a brand as high-profile as the NEC does make for a slightly simpler search. Nevertheless, it was still imperative for the team to meet the senior hiring managers at the business to establish which of the high-quality candidates found would best suit the company’s culture.
